"BIG DOG" STILL HAS HIS BARK

This is the Bill Clinton we love. The President that served us for TWO terms and who always revealed the Republicans for who they really are.

President Clinton supported his wife passionately and after yesterday's speech we know why.

The media and Republican trolls underestimated the dedication of the Clintons. They have put their country first as always.

The Clintons have transformed DIVISION into MULTIPLICATION in two speeches.

We have the leadership, We are on the RIGHT side of history.
Now it's up to us. We have the power to make history and put President Obama in the White House.

I feel sorry for McCain (2.00 / 1)

The party is unified, and McCain will now have to try to sell his ideas.

The Republican Convention (2.00 / 1)

Will be a message of hate and fear.

Obama rallies his supporters with hope and inspiration.

McCain rallies his supporters with fear and hate. "Hate the other guy because x, y and z. Vote for the other guy and the terrorists win."

Hope and inspiration, hate and fear are all powerful tools. It's just a matter of whether or not you want to lift us up or appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I believe anyoen not watching Cspan (2.00 / 2)

has made a mistake.  Many of the best speeches have come when Fox/cnn/msnbc has had their talking head spreading nonsense.  They have been complaining about a lack of excitement blah blah blah but is has been there, they chose not to show it.  The governor from Montana( i believe) gave an amazing speech that had the whole place up and yelling.  Shame that most people didn't see it.

Hey Brandon I did hear Schweitzer's speech and it was exceptional. Montana is lucky to have him. Actually it was my first time hearing him speak and I was impressed like many. Cheers

Re: I believe anyoen not watching Cspan (2.00 / 1)

As I said over on dKos, we were on CNN and I could see Kerry starting to speak in the background, so I had to "extract" the remote from my wife's hand and go to C-SPAN. Kerry had some great lines that I hope will get repeated throughout the campaign.

Also saw a really good line on a dKos post:

John McCain. Out of touch at home. Out of control abroad. Confused everywhere.

What part of 'give it a rest' is so hard to understand.  I have rarely seen this forum more united and the way forward so clearly free of the partisan barbs of the primary season.  Come on in, the water's fine...

Re: "BIG DOG" STILL HAS HIS BARK (none / 0)

'Give it a rest'.

It really would have been nice to have seen that in action before an entire political movement worked so hard to portray 'the Big Dog' as a racist.

I agree with you that the forum is now united and the kudos for BC are being spread, but I also have to understand where zero was coming from, because it was reality based.

The most pressing item on our agenda is getting Obama elected.  Second, on my agenda is wondering (out loud at times) if the praise of Bill's words last night are as sincere as the bloviating done about his use of the term 'fairy tale' being racist.

Unity is great, and we need it.  The 'victor' has everything they wanted now, but demanding we 'unlearn' how we got here never to speak of it again is, well, simply Rovian.

My tag line, which I've had for almost two months now, is as relevant today as it was when I penned it.

Re: "BIG DOG" STILL HAS HIS BARK (none / 0)

I don't think there ever was a time or place for some to work as hard as they did to destroy Bill's political achievements.

Swatting at someone who still has sore toes from being run over by folks not caring about the consequences is not helping them to 'get over it'.

Re: "BIG DOG" STILL HAS HIS BARK (none / 0)

I understand, agree, and commiserate.

We need unity, and they needed him to say the things he stated.  The next move is theirs: either they change their tune and admit they were wrong about him, or they simply make the case that his latest remarks were coerced, and therefore not to be held as 'truth'.

I vote for the first option for Democrats as the GOP has already begun to tout the second option, but I won't hold my breath.  Clinton 'hate' seems to have taken a life of it's own on our side of the aisle this season, dammit all.

I remember that farewell speech Bill gave in the hanger at Andrews Air Force Base on that terrible inauguration day in 2001 - I had tears in my eyes. When you see Bill doing what he does best, like then, like tonight, it really makes you hate George Bush, Republicans in general, and every goddam idiot who ever voted for them, you know what I mean?

damn straight (2.00 / 1)

As always, he is beyond amazing.  Wow.  And this speech was so important, and probably very very very tough for him.  He had to hand over the torch, and that could not have been easy.

He did it, and he did it in the way only Bill Clinton could do it.

Bravo.

WOOF! (2.00 / 2)

Gravitas.  Great speech in so many ways.

More than the delivery (great) and the content (perfect) was the understanding of the purpose.

He knew exactly what the purpose of the speech was in the immediate-term, the mid-term and the long-term.  Bill Clinton is one of the scary-smartest people out there, and while that doesn't make him perfect all the time, it shows when he lines up for a moment like this.  He saw that from a mile away and hit it as easy as a John Olerud homerun.

Re: "BIG DOG" STILL HAS HIS BARK (2.00 / 1)

When Bill mouthed "I love you" to Hillary when she was giving her speech, I almost starting bawling. He is so passionate about her and so very proud of her. To have that kind of support from your partner is so wonderful. I see it in Obama and Michelle too and it's so heartwarming.

How could anyone want to be a Republican? I just don't get it!!

Re: "BIG DOG" STILL HAS HIS BARK (2.00 / 2)

It still wasn't as good as Hillary's speech!  She sold the emotional part of the unity message, he sold the more cerebral and detail-oriented part.  Both were necessary, both were flawless.  It's not like I personally had any doubts, but you still just have to watch in awe.

Now - without reopening anything, please, because it's not my intent - do folks maybe understand a little better why some of us took it so personally when these two good Democrats got attacked a little more harshly than they should?  You could not have asked for a better performance, for the benefit of party and country, under such scrutiny and such emotional circumstances than what you saw the last two nights.

If everything works out in the next eight years and beyond like we all dream it will, you gotta remember this moment for the role it played - like that guy swimming the last leg of Michael Phelps' relay, you know?  Sometimes even the brightest stars need a little boost from the team to make the difference.

You almost have to feel bad for John McCain.  I mean, not only is Obama the biggest celebrity in the world [tm] in his own right, but he has this amazing all-star lineup to advocate on his behalf, including of course his own wife.  And then McCain has... uh, Fred Thompson?  You gotta feel good at this point.

Put the Big Dog in Ohio (2.00 / 1)

for the next three months and just have him go from small town to small town doing retail politics and giving versions of this speech.

He wouldn't want to do it but honestly I think he would swing the state by himself.
